Our new Outreach Music Project update
Our musical facilitator Jobe Sullivan has continued to teach weekly at The Abbey Primary in Erdington. The students are doing a phenomenal job and are a real credit both to their school and to the future of Irish Music in the city.
Jobe teaches Bodhran, Tin Whistle and accordion at The Abbey. The Abbey Irish Group played for the school's very own St Patrick's Day Parade at an eye-wateringly early 8:30am! They played classics such as Molly Malone, The Rattlin Bog and even some songs they know from church.
The children are also really proactive learning songs themselves, albeit not always traditional Irish songs! Nonetheless, their enthusiasm is infectious, so for an example of 'Vivaldi's Spring', 'Pirates of The Caribbean' and 'In Christ Alone'. Some of the tin whistle players have a Miley Cyrus song ready. It shows the positive impact that Jobe has had on the students in the sessions.
For the rest of the year, Jobe will be working in class with year 6 as well as focusing on the piano-accordionist. There are children from year 3, 4, 5 and 6, which is great news for the future of Irish music.
Birmingham Irish Association are also delivering sessions at Bishop Challoner in Kings Heath, where Jobe is teaching mandolin and banjo. Here's to more great music!
